MY APPROACH

Over the past 10 years in private practice, I've developed a particular interest in supporting people experiencing anxiety and burnout.

I believe change isn't about pushing through or trying harder. It's about understanding yourself with greater compassion, learning to work with your nervous system, and reconnecting with what matters most to you.

My approach is integrative, which means I draw on different therapeutic perspectives and tailor our work to you, rather than following a fixed formula. I also incorporate insights from Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB), mindfulness and self-compassion to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your experiences and the patterns that may be keeping you stuck.

Together we'll explore

  • Developing self-compassion to ease self-criticism and perfectionism.

  • Understanding how your brain, body and nervous system respond to stress.

  • Exploring patterns, emotions, relationships and experiences that may be contributing to how you're feeling.

  • Using mindfulness to help you feel calmer, more grounded and present.

  • Finding practical ways to reduce overwhelm and build resilience.

  • Reconnecting with yourself, your values and a life that feels more balanced and meaningful.

How counselling works

Counselling is a process, rather than something that happens in a set number of steps. We will work together at a pace that feels manageable for you, regularly reflecting on what you need from our work.

Beginning – Understanding where you are

Our first sessions are about getting to know one another and understanding what has brought you to counselling.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to talk about. Together, we can begin to make sense of what is happening in your life, what feels difficult and what you would like to change.

Sometimes simply having a safe, confidential space to pause and be heard can be the beginning of change.

Exploring – Making sense of your experience

As our work develops, we can gently explore what may be beneath the difficulties you're experiencing.

This might include your relationships, emotions, beliefs, patterns of behaviour and the ways your nervous system responds to stress, uncertainty or overwhelm.

Using an IPNB-informed approach, we can explore the connection between your mind, body, relationships and environment. Developing this awareness can help you understand yourself with greater compassion, rather than seeing your responses as something that needs to be fixed.

Moving forward – Creating possibilities for change

As you begin to understand yourself differently, we can explore new possibilities for how you want to live and respond to life's challenges.

This might involve developing healthier boundaries, changing patterns that no longer serve you, finding ways to manage overwhelm, or reconnecting with the things that give your life meaning.

The aim isn't to become a different person. It's about becoming more connected with yourself and having greater choice in how you move forward.

Nature-based counselling

Nature can be a powerful support in working with anxiety, stress and burnout. Spending time outdoors can offer a different pace and space for reflection, helping us to slow down, become more present and reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.

If appropriate, we can incorporate nature into our work through outdoor counselling sessions, offering a calm and restorative environment in which to reflect, explore and reconnect.

Nature-based counselling is just one of the ways we can work together. I also offer counselling online, by telephone and in a comfortable private room. We can consider which setting feels most appropriate for you and the work we are doing together.
