Feeling Stuck: When You Know Something Needs to Change
Have you ever had the feeling that something needs to change, but you don't quite know what?
Perhaps you're tired of feeling anxious.
You're exhausted from constantly trying to keep everything going.
Or you have a sense that you're not really enjoying life in the way you used to.
You know something isn't quite right, but knowing what to do about it can feel much harder.
Sometimes, this is what feeling stuck looks like.

When you're running on empty
When we're experiencing anxiety or burnout, it's easy to think that we should simply do something about it.
Make a change.
Get organised.
Try harder.
But when you're already exhausted, even small decisions can feel overwhelming.
Sometimes the first step isn't making a big change.
It's stopping for long enough to notice what's actually going on.
What might you be missing?
When life becomes about getting through the day, we can lose touch with ourselves.
We may become very good at knowing what everyone else needs, while finding it much harder to answer:
What do I need?
What makes me feel like myself?
What gives me energy rather than taking it away?
What have I been putting off because I've been too busy coping?
These aren't always easy questions.
And you don't necessarily need to have the answers straight away.
Sometimes being curious is enough to begin.
You don't have to have it all figured out
There can be a lot of pressure to know exactly where you're going.
But change rarely happens in one big, clear moment.
Sometimes it starts with something much smaller.
Taking a proper lunch break.
Saying no to something.
Going for a walk without your phone.
Talking honestly about how you're feeling.
Making space for something you used to enjoy.
Small changes can help us begin to reconnect with ourselves.
And from there, we may start to see what needs to change next.
Counselling can offer a place to pause
When you're feeling stuck, it can be difficult to see your situation clearly when you're right in the middle of it.
Counselling offers a space to slow things down and explore what's happening without having to arrive with all the answers.
Together, we can begin to make sense of the thoughts, feelings and patterns that may be keeping you stuck, while gently exploring what you want your life to feel like.
Sometimes we don't need someone to tell us what to do.
We need somewhere safe enough to hear ourselves think.
If this feels familiar
If you're experiencing anxiety, burnout or feeling disconnected from yourself, counselling can offer a space to pause, reflect and begin to find your way forward.
I offer counselling for adults online, in person and through nature-based counselling in the Brentwood area.
You can arrange a free 15-minute telephone consultation to talk about what you're looking for and whether counselling might be right for you.
